Research Process

The Notorious BIG is one of my favorite artists, however when stumbling upon the official website, I was a bit dissapointed. Biggie’s legacy in rap is monumental, however you would not be able to tell that by looking at the current website. It lacks the loudness and swagger that are essential to Biggie’s character.

Research Findings

After listening to a lot of music, and watching a lot of music videos, I determined the biggest thing missing from this website is attention. It is to bland, and does not attempt to stand out. Biggie’s persona is the complete opposite. Whether it is his booming voice rapping over the mic, his bright colored Coogie© sweatshirts, or flashy music videos, all eyes are on Biggie whenever he is around.

To combat this I included the use of textured components, video and music to produce a full sensory experience. I used graffiti textures throughout the site to pay homage to NY street culture. Then, I made each button on the home page a short clip from one of his music videos. Finally, the music note at the top of the website that leads to a page that plays the beat to one of his songs: Kick In The Door.

In addition to the use of video, audio was a huge part in livening up the website. While user testing, the inclusion of music to play while browsing was a highly appreciated feature. Though simple in concept, its value can not be overlooked.
